The Stork Was REALLY Busy Here Last Night

Went to visit my friend Barb in Camp Verde yesterday afternoon, stayed for dinner and it got late on me, I didn't get home until 11:30... and I was hungry again so wanted a quick snack before hitting the sack. Sitting at the table eating and heard some really weird noises coming from Hannah's crate. It was fixed up different yet again, Randy must have been remodeling while I was gone. Asked him about it and he said that every time he let Hannah out yesterday she ran straight to Darci's little pink house - she was really trying to den up. So he put the small crate inside the great dane crate so Hannah would have a smaller cave in the back. Anyway she was breathing funny and the towel drape was wiggling so I decided I'd better stay up and keep checking on her. Right after midnight, she had company!

What do you want lady? I'm BUSY here!

Cleaning the pup
Lindsey was out with a friend and said she would come home and keep watch so I could get to bed, at 2 a.m. I was fading fast. Still just the one pup...
This is what happens when the proud papa wants to check his work! (He was OUTSIDE the kennel, Lindsey took this from the front through the door and Zacchaeus was on the left... he KNEW he smelled SOMETHING!)
Checking baby again...
And I guess that's all we are going to get, just one! When I fed Hannah this morning I nabbed the pup for a couple quick pics, so here's the little guy this morning, all dry! LOVE those markings!
He's so tiny!

I'm 99% sure it's a boy, but I haven't ever had to sex a pup this small... that dark spot on his belly is the umbilical cord, it's hard to see in this picture but right below it about a quarter of an inch is a little pink nub... and my friend Barb who has had 4 boy pups in 2 litters this year says I'm probably right from the description I gave her...

Getting to bed at 2 a.m. did not make for an easy morning, so I decided to call in late to work and sleep in a little. Lindsey doesn't have school on Mondays this semester so I can get her to feed for me... but when I did get up I thought before I got ready for work I would check on Susie Q real quick. She seemed normal last night when I got home, I checked her about 11:30... but this morning when I walked out, she had EIGHT legs! Well, it looked like she had eight legs, because there was a baby was standing behind her.
It's a jennet (girl), 22 inches tall and 31 pounds.
Mom is very protective!
Isn't she just precious...
Sorry if I ramble and don't make sense, I'm a very excited grandma!! I PROMISE more pictures later but I gotta get back out there...

Well that's just fun. That is what makes it so fun having animals, it's the little babies we get to play with for a while. Do horses and donkeys deliver their selves or is it better that someone be out there?

Ohh my!!!! What a fun morning!!! They are sooo cute and I'm so happy everything went well and no problems arose. So how fast is this little one going to get nabbed up like Moses did? I'll have to show hubby as he will be excited also. Hannah looked bigger like she would have more then 1 pup but, it is probably good that she did only have one as she is tiny herself! Have fun and get some rest!
