Hay There!

This morning we finally got the shade put up next to the hay barn so that I could move the supplements, buckets and miscellaneous feeding stuff OUT of the hay barn and actually use the whole thing for hay. I meant to take before, during and after pictures but I forgot before and during {sigh}

But the big adventure today was getting hay.

After driving all the way to Buckeye and back with my good friend Mary we arrived back at her house to offload her hay, parked around the side because we were waiting for Rick to return and move his truck (he and Randy went shopping - guy stuff!) and they were right behind us... anyway we got out of the truck and it was spitting, I do watch all my gauges and all were fine but it was green liquid... turned around to get a better look and noticed that the middle tire on the 3-axle trailer was GONE! Oops, didn't even see or feel that one... in going close to check that out, discoveed that the light plug had fallen out of the truck and dragged on the road and was actually gone off the end of the wire... all the while my stomach is sinking more and more, hoo boy Randy is NOT going to be happy... but he was very good about it, none of it was my fault, just stuff happens... the truck isn't bad, probably a pinhole in the lower radiator hose, the trailer tire a different story because the rim got net and they are odd tires so hard to find... we've been looking for one to use as a spare since we bought the thing and no luck so far... and I NEED this trailer!!!

Nothing else we have will haul this much hay and I'm just not paying for fuel to drive to Buckeye for 10 bales!!
Here's the other side, Randy and Rick had to remove the tire on that side as well so the axle would balance and "float" and nothing else would get ruined, and we limped the 2.5 miles home on 4 tires - very carefully!!

So poor Randy, I am going to visit Andria this weekend and HE will be repairing the trailer!!

Did I mention how very much I love this man????

Late Night!

On the spur of the moment went out to dinner with my friend Mary and her roommate Rick, who recently moved here from back east after retiring from the coast guard, his plan is to go to school and become a nurse. He and Randy get along really well and we all had so much fun talking we closed down Anita's (well it's Wickenburg, small town so they close at 9pm lol) then when we dropped them off we went in and kept talking and next thing we knew it was after 11:30! That may now sound like much to some of you but around here we both get up REALLY EARLY all week long (and me on the weekends too!) so for us to stay up that late was really something...

The First Goodbye

Well the pups were six weeks old on Tuesday so they can go home now. The first two went today, Zack and Zoe, their new mom met me in the parking lot this morning before work. I will miss the little cuties, but 2 less pups pooping on my kitchen floor is not a bad thing... I did talk to their new mom after work today and she is very happy with them, although a tad exhausted... she said she took them outside to potty about eighty times lol.

Chelsea will be next but she is staying a couple of weeks because her new mom is going out of town next week.

Then Zeus will leave in December when Lindsey leaves for school (change in campus due to class availability) - and Rocket of course is staying. Guess I am lucky, I am getting weaned up pups rather slowly :)

A New Drink

A guy walks into a bar, sits down, and asks, 'Bartender, got any specials today?'

Bartender answers, 'Yes, as a matter of fact we have a new drink, invented by a gynecologist patron of ours. It's a mix of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and Smirnoff Vodka.'

The guy asks, 'Good grief, what do you call that?'

The bartender replied, 'It's a 'Pabst Smir.'

{sorry i couldn't resist lol}

Meet Patches

Remember the new rescue pony? Debbie and her sister Soleil both talked to him and he says his name is Patches. Between the two of them they both got that name and that he is about 10-11 years old. He doesn't want to talk much about his past, he is more concerned with his future and what is going to happen to him. But they did get this:

"He's showing me a cart, so he must have pulled a cart at sometime. He says that humans have been mean to him, but he hasn't been abused or hurt physically. He was ignored, not taken care of, sometimes only fed once per day etc. Mostly being ignored. He was lonely, very lonely. Was either by himself or kept away from other horses. He wants to have equine friends. I see green grass, so he must have been somewhere with green grass."

Based on his loneliness I let him out with my herd but I did tell him beforehand that he should not bond with anyone here as he is not supposed to stay here...

"he keeps showing me a little blond girl that he loves....maybe this girl will show up but for some reason he feels connected to her so it could be someone from the past or someone he is looking to connect to in the future - I've explained that you are trying to find him a home where he will be happy and I've asked him to make it very clear when he meets someone he likes so you will know. He says he will do this but he seems very uninterested in people at the moment. I'm also getting something is wrong with his back - needs an adjustment I think but I'd have to look at him to know what he's showing me. It almost feels like he has a rib out.

I always say Ponies must have the worst karma of the horse world because they are generally moved alot, abused and neglected due to the nature of being a kid's first horse over and over again. I think he may have bonded and then been passed on and his heartache has shut him down. Horses moving around is always hard on them. I've apologized to him for the way he has been treated and explained that not all humans are the same. I've also passed on your messages."

My messages being that he is not meant to stay here, that he is here so that I can find him a home and family of his very own, but that I will keep an eye on him from now on.

Soleil also got this:

"Looks like he was in a carting accident and was injured...seems like we need to check his back legs, hips, and I think the pole hit his ribs."

So we will be having the vet/chiro out soon, I'm going to call tomorrow and try to schedule.

Took these today:

Guess Who's Staying?

When I asked Debbie, one of the animal communicators I know, to talk to Hannah the day before we went to the vet, one of the questions I asked was what is the name of pup #1 (boy) and pup #3 (girl) since they didn't have names yet. Hannah and pup #3 both said her name was "Chelsea" (and Mary, who is going to be her new mom, and I had both gotten "Elsie" so we were close lol). Hannah said pup #1 was "Rocket" but he said he preferred "Milo" {aarrgghh!!} However after we lost Hannah I had Debbie ask him again and he was ok with using the name his mama had picked, so long as his choice could be his middle name.
So... meet "Rocket" who, when he gets in trouble, will be "Rocket Milo!!" lol

I have really been feeling like this pup needs to stay so I had also asked Debbie about that. One of the things she came back and asked me was whether I had a white dog or a light-colored dog as a child. And I did have a white one from the 3rd grade on... in fact if I remember right she was 16 or 17 when she passed. That dog was the only sister I ever had! Well Debbie says that Rocket is my childhood dog come back :) so Randy, bless his heart, is bowing to fate or kismet or karma or whatever and Rocket stays :)

Darci however is not so sure about this lol - jealous girl!!

Sometimes I think I hear the Twilight Zone theme playing in the background of my life but hey, it is what it is, and despite the fact that I didn't even like the looks of this pup the day he was born, the older he got the more of a connection I felt...

Big Storm!

After we ate dinner last night I took these shots about a minute apart, over a span of not more than 5 minutes - see how the clouds boiled up and got bigger and then came together?

We did get a FEW minutes by the campfire

Not long after we went to bed last night it started pouring... I had blanketed the horses becuase of the wind but their blankets are water resistant, not water proof, so I kept listening to it rain, thinking "I really need to get out there and bring them under the trailer awning..." but also thinking "If the rain would just stop now, I could go back to sleep..."

I finally got up, put my raincoat on over my PJs, and moved all our stuff over to one corner under the awning, and brought the horses under it. Not much room but they could huddle together, and since Luna's blanket had soaked through I removed it and put her in the middle. The other two were wet outside but not under the blankets... and wouldn't you know it, as soon as I went back to bed, the rain stopped. I don't think it rained again the rest of the night - at least, it didn't rain hard enough to wake me up! Got up about dawn and put the girls back in the corral and fed them breakfast, then went back to bed and took my afternoon nap early! I was so tired...

When Randy got up, after I was up and had my own breakfast, I saddled up Katie for him and Luna for me and he rode around camp so I could follow on Luna. He was ready to take us out on the road but I was not up for that... however this is the first time I have ridden Luna WITHOUT wearing her out first by ponying on a trail ride, and she did really well :)

Not far down the hill on the way home Randy pulled over to check the brakes and they were on fire! No thanks to the guy in front of us who did NOT know how to drive... one good thing about pulling over was he got far enough ahead of us that he didn't impact us any more. Randy doused them with water from the Igloo in the back of the truck {mental note - BUY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!!} and we will have the brakes on the trailer checked as they were not operating at top capacity either. As for the truck, the brakes were just replaced in May, so back to the shop it goes, and they can fix it like they SHOULD have the first time!!!!

But we are home safe and sound!
