I Love My New Boots!!!!!

I'd been thinking about it for a while, talked to my friend Mary about hers, and finally bit the bullet, so to speak, and bought a pair of those Ariat riding boots that are comfy like tennis shoes. Best part of all, although I'd not seen them out and about, is that they DO come in BLACK!
I LOVE THEM. No, seriously, I really, REALLY LOVE them.
I wear them all day Friday at work, my feet don't hurt a bit. I wear them all day riding etc., my feet don't hurt A BIT! So if you have been thinking about it too, DO IT! And I was lucky, just before Christmas "while supplies last" with every purchase of Ariat boots at Boot Barn (store or on-line) you got a free fleece vest... I've worn that a couple of times and it keeps me nice and warm.

Hey, did I mention that I LOVE MY NEW BOOTS?????

It made me sad, though, how quickly I got them dirty (I guess because I am wearing them so much?!?!)

So I even went and got another pair... to keep for GOOD!

A Doggie Bloggie

There are 10 dogs living at our house. Yes, 10. Actually there would probably be more if it was just the girls and I, but Randy is our "voice of reason". It's not quite as bad as it sounds, actually, because half of them are pretty little (20 pounds or less). But 10 dogs is still a lot... however we enjoy them and they are all different. You've already met the newest, Darci Jean, and eventually I plan to introduce them all individually. In the meantime, here are some fun pictures...

We Got Wednesdays

This may seem a little off topic but this blog is about my life and this is a very important part of my life.

By way of history, I've been hurt at more than one church by so-called religious people, and hypocrisy is just not my bag. So for years I have avoided organized religion and have not attended any church. I firmly believe that organized religion, no matter which, is made of man, not God. Randy has a friend, Dr. Gary McCraw, who works a retail job and also teaches classes at Phoenix Bible College, and Randy was auditing some classes in his own search for the truth as he was also disillusioned by organized religion. One class was called "Religion vs. Relationship" and that sounded like what I feel, so I went with him to that class, and it was great! I was very impressed by Dr. Gary as well, but I really didn't feel that classes geared toward people looking for a degree, and wanting to be pastors themselves, was the right place for me to be.

Randy had asked me a while back if it would be ok if he went to a men's bible study, as for years he and Gary had been discussing the possibility. I said sure and was kinda relieved that being a "men's bible study" he wouldn't be asking me to come along. Quite regularly he would call me and say he wasn't coming straight home as he needed to stop by the shop and talk to Gary, and admittedly I got quite frustrated sometimes because he got home so late. He could never really tell me what was so important to talk about, either!

Well he started going to a bible study on Wednesday nights and that was not a good night for me, first Wednesday of each month is my horse club meeting and second Wednesday I had been invited to join a bunco group in the neighborhood, which I thought would be a great opportunity to meet some more of my neighbors, but I told him I would go along with him when I could. It was a kind of "date night" because we would meet after work for dinner somewhere, and we really enjoyed the time to ourselves, and then we would go on to the bible study. I really liked it which surprised me, but then again, it was like no bible study I had ever attended before. In fact, it was decided early on that it would be called "Midweek Fellowship" for that very reason. Several times the discussion came up about how it got started and that's when I found out that it was God's idea that Randy go see Gary so many nights after work - because Randy kept getting the feeling that he really needed to go see Gary, and no matter what else they talked about, he always asked before he left about the "men's bible study"... Gary admitted that he had been putting it off for a long time and it was Randy "hounding" him that made him finally set something up. He kept saying it would only last a few weeks and then everyone would quit, and Randy's response was always 'well, hey, at least we'll have a few weeks - and then we can start another one!"

Gary's initial request to God was to send him the "angry young men" - people who had been hurt by organized religion, and were not attending church. Well he quickly found out that the "angry" was the important part, and that the "young" and the "men" were too limiting! There are people of all ages and a lot of couples as well - the group is growing slowly but surely and we all feel that this is something REALLY special, and REALLY important. In fact Midweek Fellowship has come to mean so much to me that I choose to attend every week, and I am no longer going to my monthly horse club meetings or bunco. This really surprised Randy, but like I said to him, I am being told that is where I need to be. He immediately said "no, I am not telling you that" and I said "not by you, honey, it's coming from inside me - it's GOD telling me!" No matter how much crap the rest of the world tries to deal us, we know we can handle it because: "We got Wednsedays!"

In fact the bunco group kinda went away over the holidays, but the gal who invited me said if she DID start it up again, it would NOT be on Wednesdays, because she wants to come to Midweek Fellowship too!

So if you live in the general Phoenix area and you want a relationship with God without organized religion getting in the way, you are welcome at Midweek Fellowship!

Ignorance Is NOT Bliss!

How I wish we had known to ask… or that someone who already knew had thought to share their knowledge. We have made some honest mistakes that ended in tragedy, and from time to time I will share those stories here with the sincere hope that doing so may help someone else avoid making those same mistakes.

Just remember, the only STUPID QUESTIONS are the ones you DON’T ASK!
MISTAKE: Do not assume that having shade available is enough… just because it is there doesn’t mean it will be used.

Lily’s first filly was a tiny blue-eyed girl we named Dandelion, because she was mostly white and seemed so tiny the wind could easily blow her away…
See, she was so small I could hold her with one arm!
She was our 4th baby and we’d had no problems with the other three, so after a week in “solitary” with her mother so they could bond without interference, we let them out with the rest of the minis. We were lucky enough to have two babies born close together and I wanted them to be able to play together…
Everything seemed to be going well until one afternoon I went to the pen to see everybody and Dandie was down - she couldn’t stand, wouldn’t nurse, couldn’t even take a bottle. She had apparently layed down to nap next to mama, who happened to be standing out in the sun, and was suffering from severe heatstroke. While I was trying to revive her any way I could, Randy called the vet, hooked up the trailer and loaded Lily, and helped me into the truck with Dandie in my arms… it would be faster for us to meet the vet at his office than to wait for him to come to us. Not five minutes down the road we were forced to call back and cancel, as Dandie had stopped breathing.
Just a few weeks after we lost her, a friend’s mare also had a tiny baby and was told by her vet that no foal of that size should be allowed in the sun UNSUPERVISED until they are at least six months old… in fact, they kept the foal and his mother in a covered stall with shadecloth on all four sides and a cooler blowing into it for WEEKS until he was big enough to not be at risk.
We were devastated that something so simple could have saved Dandie – Impatiens had been born in late June when it was much hotter and she was dark in color which one would think would attract more heat, but she had no trouble. Justice and Oreo were both dark and they were also fine…
If only someone had told us about that when we sent pictures of our new baby to everyone we knew, including quite a few mini owners, and marveled at how small she was and how little she weighed.
Needless to say, from now on ANY foal will be kept out of the sun until they are old enough and big enough to regulate their own body temperature… be sure to check with your vet when your babies are born!!

A Motley Crew...

Today being Martin Luther King Day I was fortunate to have the day off. My mom came out for a visit and since it was such a nice day, we went for a ride. Well, kinda. Luna is still too young, Skeye is too small for me, Katie still recovering from her injury, Thorn was sore after 6 hours of riding Saturday and Destiny threw a shoe... So our "riding" group consisted of 2 people mounted on horses, 1 person walking a mini donkey, and 2 dogs!

Lindsey hopping on Skeye bareback
Lindsey and Skeye, Grammy and Paint Mare
And off we go...
I had the camera most of the time and being on foot fell behind. So we have some "behind" shots LOL.

But sometimes Dillon was BEHIND me!

Zacchaeus found SOMETHING!

I did get Lindsey to take a few shots...
Paint Mare was NOT happy with Dillon!

Towards the end my boy and I were both "dragging ass"!

More Than You Ever Wanted To Know...

Meet 3 of my best friends:I spend a LOT of time with these three. They help me turn this:
into this:
and they help me turn this:
into this:
and they help me turn this:
into this:
Moses thinks I did a good job :)

This is one horse apple... road apple... horse poop... critter litter... doo doo - whatever you want to call it...
doesn't look like much, does it? but when you figure that each PILE has 25-30 or more of these... and each HORSE makes - well, we're guessing here but the general consensus in our house is at least 8 piles a day... and there are, at present count, 28 horses, donkey and mules on the property... well, do the math - that's a LOT of poop!! I get at least one wheelbarrow each morning out of the big horse pens... and I try to get at least one most afternoons from the mini pens so I don't get behind. Otherwise I can end up spending several hours on the weekend with my 3 best friends!

In the first blog (me on the tractor) I mentioned that we dump what comes out of the horse pens into the arena... that's why I like to tractor it whenever it rains, to turn things over... anyway once the wheelbarrow is full:
it goes out to the pasture and gets dumped:
Here is proof positive that I am a goofball - when I spread the manure, I make stars!
Oh yeah, one more best friend (well, ok, a PAIR of best friends!)

I could NOT manage without these plastic clogs...
