A Double Dose of Cute
Sherman and Vada, being only 3 days apart in age, are having a lot of fun together.
Got them a new toy at the feed store last week - a tug rope just their size!
"If I can't chew on the rope," says Vada, "I will just chew on Sherman's foot!"
Lindsey interrupts their play with teasing fingers...
All that playing wears them out...
Sleep tight, little ones...

Twins?
(Sorry, gotta cheat here, unbelievable how far behind I got being gone for a long weekend...)

Nope, but they almost look like it freshly shaved, don't they?
Samson and Delilah are littermates. Their sire was Maltese and Chihuahua, and had long, WHITE hair.
Their mother was Min Pin and "some kind of terrier", and had short, BLACK hair.
Five out of six pups in the litter were various shades of brown.
Go figure!

SLC Days 3 & 4
Despite the best of intentions I missed blogging yesterday. So much going on I just didn't get to it. Nothing real important, just a lot of little busy stuff. Had gotten a call Friday night from the stable asking Andria if her mom had left her camera... yup, I had. So first thing we had to run back out to Antique Acres and pick up the camera. Stopped at the store on the way back and got stuff to make dinner. Back to the house, unload the groceries, look up a movie and we went to see Horton Hears a Who. Pretty much a kid movie but one line I loved - one of the little critters talking about her own make-believe tiny village in a speck, she says:
My village is full of ponies and the ponies eat rainbows and poop butterflies!
Wow. Just imagine... for someone who scoops a lot of poop, this idea was quite intriguing. However I would prefer they pooped dollar bills...
Looks to me like the weather is turning nasty, glad it wasn't like this the whole time I was here!
After the movie we went back to the house and made dinner, my favorite green chile chicken enchiladas... then Spencer went out with some friends and Andria and I watched another movie and ate chocolate pie... stayed up too late and I just never blogged...
This morning we all slept in then went to breakfast at Cracker Barrel, back to the house and packed... said good bye to the grand-dogs. Tally is thrilled to have her chair back (long story).
Zoe wondering what that thing is in front of my face...
Ended up we had enough time to take the dogs for a walk
This is where I was all weekend :)
Then off to the airport and home. Randy brought Darci with to the airport, and I'm not sure who was more happy to see me!
Came home to no internet and panicked because I need to post pictures yikes! But my darling husband fixed it :) as you can see, and I have added pictures to Days 1 and 2 as well...

Salt Lake City - Day Two
Slept great despite being in a strange place and woke up ready to ride :) First we dropped the grand-dogs off at the groomer, then headed to Antique Acres, where my grand-horse Smoke lives.
Smoke turned out before the ride

This is a couple of shovel birds that live at the stable. Guess what we are making next Randy :)
This sign is out on the street. Had to get a picture, loved that bottom sign...
George and Christa were kind enough to loan me a horse and tack. "Pepper" is just like my Paint Mare except for color so I had a great ride...
We rode up into the mountains and looking back could see the WHOLE valley, it was amazing.
Andria and Smoke

George on River, and Christa on Tuscany, heading up the hill
There was still patches of snow here and there but the creeks were running pretty hard from the spring melt.
Andria got a shot of me and Pepper
Then Christa took some of us together

George and River, heading back
We rode longer than Andria had planned and Spencer got off work early so we quick picked up the grand-dogs who are now very soft and sweet-smelling, dropped them at home and went to eat Indian food. I was thinking American Indian (frybread YUM) but it was India Indian - which I'd never eaten before. So I followed Andria's example for what to order. Whatever you choose, you can ask for it to be mild, medium, hot or extra hot. After a discussion about how I like my Mexican food a little spicy, we all got medium except for Spencer who got extra hot. At home I generally dip my appetizers in good old ranch but the choices here were a kinda spicy green stuff, and reddish-purple stuff that was sweet... started with the green but quickly switched to the purple which was really good, even on the onion-ring type things and the spinach stuff. Don't ask me names, they were all Indian and I don't speak that! The spiciness of the green appetizer dip should have been my first clue... The dinner was Chicken Vindaloo, I remember that... and the first bite was good but after that I was wishing I had asked for MILD! Spencer was sweating and turning red but lovin' it... hoo boy not me!!! There was a flat bread with garlic that was pretty awesome too, but I think my favorite part was the ice cold water! An interesting experience!
Back at home the "kids" are playing Guitar Hero and Rock Star. Me, I'm just watching, wondering when I got so darned old...

First Day in Salt Lake City
Despite a problem with the plane which needed a part replaced (isn't that comforting!) I arrived safely. Nice sunny day for a change, according to Andria, but chilly here - still snow on the mountains.
Off to enjoy a pedicure first thing.
Then stopped by Andria's work to meet folks and get her stitches out.
Then we came home and took my grand-dogs for a walk. Meet Tally (silver) and Zoe (brown) - they are littermates and the sisters of our dog Tank.

Tally catching the ball - really, although the camera was too slow to catch her doing it!
Zoe getting love.
Then we went to eat and saw this on the way - what does this look like to YOU?

Enjoyed dinner at my favorite restaurant in Salt Lake, Charlie Chow's Dragon Grill.

One of their menu items is called a dragon bowl. You choose your own fresh ingredients, then hand the bowl to the cook and it comes back to your table all cooked up. YUM YUM.
On the way home got a lovely sunset shot - quite a bit different than our Arizona sunsets!
Tomorrow we visit my grand-horse :) and go riding!

Soccer Anyone?
Zacchaeus is only one of several of our dogs that LOVES to play ball. But he is the most dedicated!
No matter who else tries, he ends up with the ball.
Waiting for me to kick it again.
Tanner tries but can't beat him.
Showing that ball who's boss:
Check out his face! And that tail a'waggin'. He's just waiting for me to kick the ball again...

I am heading to Salt Lake City, Utah early tomorrow morning, to visit my oldest daughter for a long weekend. I hope to be able to blog from there, I am taking my camera. However if you don't hear from me for a few days, then it didn't work out... I sure hope I can as I am trying to blog daily 365!

My OTHER Daughter, The Horse Trainer (Too)
Hilary was going to ride Cimarron over the weekend but the wind was blowing like crazy here so we decided better safe than sorry... Monday night it was calm so she got the boy out and saddled him up. Worked him him the round pen a bit until he was paying attention and then I held my breath while she mounted. It was almost a let-down, he just stood perfectly still!

He did try a few little crow-hop/kicking out things, of course they were so quick I couldn't catch them with the camera. But she soon had him behaving inside the round pen...

So she had me open the gate and away they went. He did spook at a few things in the yard but overall not bad. He wanted to go to his friends in the pasture but had to behave himself.
Hilary says he has a really nice collected lope, but the transition from trot to lope is a bit awkward. Reminds me of my first horse, he had the same trouble. We decided it must be the difference in changing gaits with a rider... and Cimarron doesn't seem to want to flex his neck when asked to turn - he turns his whole body with his head straight out in front. So now she has some ideas on what to work on.
She is smiling though!
Once she dismounted, I was smiling too - no ER visit!!
