Loving the Dragoons...

Had a fantastic time this weekend - despite a flat on the way home {sigh}. Friday night around the campfire was extra special with Lindsey and her guitar. My good friend LindaK also noodled around on it a bit so if she shows up to another campfire without her own guitar, we are gonna string her up! (I know, just kidding... but really, it was so cool! We stayed up until 10:30 (imagine that "10:30" in huge bold print!) which is unheard of...

I didn't take many pictures, here are my favorites:

but look what I got {grin}

If you weren't following this blog last year this time... we found a skull on that ride too but another gal got to take it home... this time it was MY turn :)

It was so nice to spend a weekend with my daughters (well 2/3 of them - missed you Andria!!!) and the horses... Thorn scared us to death on Saturday afternoon though, after the ride he suddenly got clammy and burning hot, his tongue and gums turned stark white, head hanging and trembly... some electrolytes from one friend and banamine from another and a bit of walking and he was right as rain in less than an hour. Very weird...

Unfortunately on the way home the real world comes crashing back, for all of us. Poor Lindsey is being hassled by my "internet stalker". Sure wish there was a way to block certain undesirables from a blog...

Off to the Dragoons!

Hilary and I are all packed and the horses and dogs are loaded and we are heading for Queen Creek to pick up Lindsey and her horse for a girls' weekend riding near the Dragoon Mountains. After seeing the pictures I took last year, the girls scheduled time off work and are coming along!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and come back to see our fantabulous pictures from this weekend!

Ready... Aim... FIRE!

Well ok they don't really SAY that... since it's a cannon, it's already aimed. But they do say Ready... FIRE!

Due to prior horse-camping plans I missed the first re-enactment... but thanks to a couple of the guys Randy got some pictures.

Check this out:

Yup that's my Randy. And the GEN-U-INE civil war cannon he inherited from his Uncle Mike. He's got a period-correct jacket and hat too... and now a GEN-U-INE sword as well! One of these days I'll get to see/hear it fire... right now I just have to imagine from this...

Here's "The Williams Gun"

And the group:

It's good to see him excited about something, like I get excited about my donkeys. For anyone local, I believe he's going to open the Veterans' Day Parade next month! I will keep you posted :)

Good Lord, What Next???

Today my favorite boss called me in to talk to me... It seems that the "big" boss has decided to leave the firm. And the two being left behind can't do it alone so the firm will be dissolving. Yup you guessed it, I am losing my job! And no, Randy hasn't found anything yet...

The good news is, I have time to look for another one... worst case scenario my job disappears at the end of the year... best case probably June of 2010...

Guess I will be whipping out the resume and updating it!

And poor Taffy Jo has bad abcesses in BOTH front feet! Found one last night, she wouldn't even let me pick up the other foot. Josh from CarrollFarm was over and mentioned some stuff Wade used on his horse, and since Wade was coming today to do the big horses, he was kind enough to take a look at Taffy Jo, found the second abcess and treated both, then called me and told me how to follow up. And the poor old gal is going to deliver, I'm guessing, within the next few weeks...

So I will be e-mailing Mikey to pick her brain. Amazingly enough, despite multiple equines over the last 12+ years, I don't know a darn thing about abcesses... guess that's a good thing huh? We've been really fortunate with our horses and donkeys and mules...

What A Beautiful Weekend...

Methinks summer might actually be over... this weekend was beautiful! Got a bit too windy today but last night we had an awesome full moon ride... just gorgeous! Of course we could always get Indian Summer and probably will, but it won't last long. The only complaint I have is that it was dark before 7pm tonight... my weekdays are about to get really really short! Winter means feeding in the dark morning and night except on weekends :( and even worse, not seeing my critters except by flashlight for days at a time!

For now however I am gonna concentrate on the nice cool weather and start planning some CLOSE rides which means big fuel savings :)

I Can't Help It

I'm generally not just apolitical, I'm ANTIpolitical... but I got this e-mail today and I just can't help it, I SO feel like this...

If things don't change soon we will be lucky to HAVE a dollhouse...

The Donkey Boys Are Happy Happy Boys

It's October, the weather has cooled off nicely, and tonight my boys are happy - they got their girls back! Breeding season begins...

No pictures, this is NOT an x-rated blog!!!
