What Are YOU Going To Be?

With Eve's trouble this week I am SO not ready for Halloween...

On another note... keep your pumpkins out of your liquor cabinet!!

Eve is Much Better!!!

We finally got poop yesterday afternoon, which quickly turned to horrid diahrrea but I figured as long as things were coming out we were good, at least for a bit. By this evening Eve is pretty much back to normal but we can hold off on the prayers for poop now, she is making enougnh for THREE mules...

Eve's Progress

Last night and this morning I really thought we were going to have to put Eve down when the vet came today but by the time he arrived at 1pm she was actually feeling better. No poop since yesterday afternoon which is not good... but she hadn't been interested in eating ANYTHING and when Lindsey walked her at about 11 she wanted food! So we had vet treatment instead of euthanasia, and meds were left with us to continue. Appreciate the prayers!!!

A couple more of my favorite shots of Eve...

Green lipstick!

Prayers For Eve

Eve is the little white mule born here 12/24/06, the daughter of our spotted donkey jack Trooper. Today she is trying to colic on me. Her poop is virtually solid sand! I could even hear it when it hit the ground... but at least there is still poop...

Here she is on a better day, mutual grooming with Ozzie...
Getting her nose in the way of his photo shoot...
I tried to catch her rolling but she was already getting up...

I don't want to take pictures of her today, she looks so pitiful... poor thing!

One Last Dragoon Ride

This morning before the looooong drive home, 6 of us went bushwacking in the opposite direction of yesterday's ride. We had a fabulous time finding our own trail...

and ran across some "wild" horses who came to say hello.
We were all fighting over the buckskin lol

If I lost out on the buckskin I was ready to take the dapple palomino instead... but through a cell phone call to our ride host we found out these were NOT strays, just turned out ranch horses, darn it!

Look - someone's going home!

A stop for a photo op

What a gorgeous ravine... can't you just hear the water gurgling over the rocks when it rains?

Three Sisters Ranch, the home of the horses we saw

Headed back to camp

Coming through this gully on the way back to camp I spotted a cow carcass but darn it I didn't take a close enough look... Kathy did however and got herself something special... well, Linda actually got it for her...

We were amazed that Kathy's horse would carry the skull - and look at those horns!

Council Rocks/Dragoon Mountains

Saturday's ride was along the west side of the Dragoon range, home of Cochise's Stronghold and Council Rocks... If a picture is worth a thousand words, this post will be pretty wordy...

Heading out
Varied terrain - some areas had lots of trees!
Turtle Rock
Tourists taking pictures of US! Some of my friends in Council Rocks

The sign...
The pictographs
Yup that's me with that little rock lol Sure could see a LOOOOONG ways. We were all wondering what those holes in the vertical side of the rock were...

As my friend Linda demonstrates, we know what THESE holes were for...
The rock table where Cochise supposedly signed the peace treaty (although the sign said it was probably signed somewhere else {sigh} spoiled my historical thrill!)
God;s own Kokopelli!

AND... My oldest is 26 today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDRIA!

Off to the Dragoons

This weekend I am camping and riding in the Dragoon Mountains southeast of Tucson.

Following my friend Linda down the dirt road to camp

We arrived just in time for a quick ride before dark...

The setting sun lends a glow to the mountains...

Beautiful end to a great day!

Nice Piece

So ok I am not only apolitical, most of the time I am ANTIpolitical. If it has anything to do with politics, I don't want to see it or hear about it. But this came in an e-mail recently and since I love donkeys so much I got a real kick out of it...

**By the way I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican... I did register to vote since this election is so important, but as an independent...

Book Review

A while back I got an e-mail asking me to do a book review on 2 juvenile fiction horse books by Jenny Oldfield, for ages 9 & up. The books arrived promptly and I dove right in. Despite the fact that they are "juvenile", they kept my interest (|I'm 47!), and I passed them along to my 17-year-old who promised to read them as well. I'm now realizing that I haven't heard back from her so willfollow up with that!

Here are the two books that were sent:

Both books feature Kirstie Scott of Half Moon Ranch, a guest ranch run by her family. Each follows Kirstie through an adventure with a wild horse, one truly wild and the other being used cruelly in a rodeo. Kirstie leads a life any young girl would love to have, and the stories have great morals to them as well. These books would make a great Christmas gift for any young girl, horse crazy or not {yet}.

There are several more in the series and I sure would like to get my hands on them as well. Once my daughter is through with them, I will be looking for another youngster to pass them to! Hey CarrollFarm, do your older girls like to read as much as your two little ones?

Prodigal Donkey Returns

Yesterday, Ellie Mae came home. She spent the summer up north (Paulden) with Clementine, keeping her company. Clementine's parents are going to try boarding their 2 horses and 2 donkeys with us and the donks arrived yesterday. Tonight I got a few pictures.

Ellie Mae (in the back) has grown a bit but it sure doesn't look to me like Clementine has!
Both girls had a good dust roll...

And they got to meet Matilda!

Who was NOT interested in any face shots for the camera...
I did get her first tooth for you!

Meet Jake

What is this? And who's lap???

Yup it's a pup and that is my daughter Hilary.
I told her no. If I said it once I said it THIRTY times. No Hilary you can NOT have this puppy, Randy will NOT be happy!!!

"Oh don't worry Mom, I will talk to him... it will be fine."

Go back and read this about 30 times and you will see what I went through this weekend.

The pup came home in our truck. His name is Jake. Funny thing is, he is cousin to Sherman, Rocket and Zeus. His mother is the sister of their father. Got that??

And for those of you who are counting {MIKEY!} yes this is #15. {sigh}

Groom Creek Fun

We had a really nice ride from Groom Creek Horse Camp today.
Check out God's totem pole...

We found the creek!

My daredevils...

And me with helmet... and Sherman of course!

What a nice day...
